I’m a researcher, educator, community advocate, and communications strategist. I’m a co-founder of Smart Growth Waterloo Region, and my recent community advocacy has been focused on growth management, responsible land use planning, and transportation choice.
I’ve just finished a PhD in Political Science at York University in Toronto, studying urban politics and Ontario municipalities. My dissertation explains how the Region of Waterloo embraced “smart growth” planning approaches, and examines how elected officials come to understand complex policy issues. In my previous scholarship, I’ve produced diverse work in the fields of political theory and gender studies.
I live with my spouse in my hometown of Waterloo, Ontario, and if I’m not talking or writing about politics, institutions, or public policy, you’ll probably find me singing or knitting.
